"Even in less than thrilling vintages,this estate produces a chewy robust Pauillac,offering sumptuous cassis fruit.Grand-Puy-Lacoste has become one of the most popular wines of Bordeaux,largely because of its unabashed,exhuberant blackberry,cassis fruit character and full-bodied hedonistic appeal".

"Aromas of cassis,minerals,spice,and vanilla are found in the 1999.Although similar to the 1998,the 1999 possesses softer tannin as well as a more evolved,sweeter entry and finish.Potentially outstanding,it is reminiscent of the 1985.Anticipated maturity: 2003-2016".

"Tasted at the 1999 horizontal at Bordeaux Index.There is a little more lift and definition on the nose compared to the Lynch-Bages.Black dusty fruits,a touch of cedar,antique bureau,mint,and dried blood.The palate is full-bodied with firm tannins,good density,a touch of bitterness in the mid-palate,very foursquare towards the finish that has a slightly ferrous edge.This is a stout,sturdy GPL that should drink well for a few years but will never thrill like say the 1982 or the 2006. Drink 2010-2020".
