Description

For sale - 1 bottle of 1937 Chateau Margaux 1er Grand Cru Classe.

This extremely rare, pre-war bottle of wine is in fantastic condition for its age. The label obviously shows signs of age and exposure to cellar conditions, but is fully readable and intact. The level is superb (base of the neck), the capsule is good and there is no cork expansion whatsoever. All this implies excellent storage during its 70+ year old life. See the pics for evidence of all this.

The bottle itself is also in extremely good condiiton. As with most Bordeaux bottles of this age, there is a very high kick-up. There are no scratches - but there are marks and imperfections commensurate with the methods of bottle-making of the time. It wasn't as perfect as it is today. Please ask if you need to see more pictures.

I have owned this bottle for a number of years and during that time it has been kept at a temperature and humidity-controlled 14 degrees. Prior to that it was owned by my grandmother, although for how long I am not sure. It is certainly fair to say though, that going by the condition, it has been well looked after. 1937 was a very good vintage and from the condition of this bottle, this wine may well be very drinkable.
