Since a bottle of Chateau Coutet 1919 was served in an episode of Downton Abbey (12/1/2014) at a house party given by the Earl and Countess of Grantham on the occasion when Dame Nellie Melba (Dame Kiri Te Kanawa) gave two beautiful singing performances,the popularity of Chateau Coutet has leapt!
The Chateau is one of the oldest in France and has been producing wine since the seventeenth century.David Peppercorn describes Coutet as being the "twin" of Barsac's other Premier Cru estate,Chateau Climens.


Robert Parker gives Chateau Coutet in Barsac a **** (Four Star) rating and in the Wine Advocate's Vintage Guide,1981 in Barsac and Sauternes is rated as an above average to excellent year.


On CellarTracker,I can only find one retailer currently listing a bottle of Chateau Coutet 1981.In Australia! A half bottle of this wine is being retailed at £51.35 (Ex Taxes).
