Description

Warres 1983 Vintage Port
(http://www.thewinedoctor.com/weekend/warres_1983.shtml)
‘In the glass the Warre's 1983 has a maturing hue, but still has plenty of dark pigment to it; it is certainly not a pale or ancient wine. The nose is delightful, as all the sweetness of young Port (which is pleasurable enough) has gone to leave a more perfumed and savoury complexity, with spicy notes of black liquorice nuanced with lifted scents of orange zest, tar and rose petals. The palate remains textured, although gently, the wine still showing a soft fruit substance but overall it feels much drier now. This perhaps allows the grip of the midpalate to show through, giving the wine a rather solid style. Even so, it feels nicely polished, integrated, although to be fair there is a slightly raw undercurrent to it. Overall, a very good wine, which held up well over a couple of nights. 17.5/20 (2/12/13)’

‘………….. I think I have preferred 1983 to 1985 so far.’

Bollinger La Grande Année 2004
La Grande Année is the ultimate expression of the Bollinger house style; rich and full - one of the world’s great Champagnes. Still family owned, this is a champagne house of world renown! In exceptional years (perhaps 4 times a decade) they produce La Grande Annee, their Prestige Cuvee. 75% of the fruit is from Grand Cru sites, the remaining 25% from the finest Premier Cru, first fermentation is in 100% old oak barrels, aged for 5 years on its lees….no expense is spared!
This fresh yet full-flavoured opulent champagne with its fine, long, toasty finish is a champagne lover’s dream. Dine in style and savour the notes which include, candied fruits, rhubarb and stone fruit. This is simply gorgeous!!

1997 Vecchie Terre di Montefili - Bruno di Rocca
Vecchie Terre di Montefili is an excellent small family owned winery, dating from 1200. The winery produces two famous wines, the Super Tuscans "Anfiteatro" made from the oldest Sangiovese vineyard, and "Bruno di Rocca" made with 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% sangiovese. This is a powerful, rich and juicy wine. This isn't sweet ‘new world’ cab sav, it's dense and focused with layers of complexity, earth, sky, soil and grape - a symphony of Italian masculinity. The sangiovese is a subtle overlay, a titanium veil giving structure and lightness, the power to extend the richness of the cabernet without losing its power. The Bruno di Rocca is exciting, yet capable of aging 10-20 years. It is at its imperious very best as we offer it for sale. Traditionally made, this wine is not cold stabilized or filtered so some tartrates or sediment will likely be in the bottle. To enjoy this wine I recommend that you decant for approx. 30 minutes. Good to drink until 2019.
