Until recently cellared in a Dorset country house by the late owner since purchase in 1988. All in great order with perfect labels, closures and levels.


Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The beautiful Quinta do Noval is undoubtedly the most famous port producer, largely because their 1931 and 1927 were to vintage port what the 1947 Cheval Blanc and 1945 Mouton-Rothschild were to the Bordeaux trade - divine, monumental wines of extraordinary depth of flavor. The 1985 is quite concentrated, seductive, and amazingly delicious. (RP) (1/1989)

Wine Spectator
Very good, it should come together with time. Medium ruby-purple, with a plum nose, full-bodied, with concentrated plum flavors, full tannins and a long finish. (JS, Web Only—1989)

MWH Wines: We’ve had to be patient with the Quinta do Noval 1985 Vintage Port as in its youth it was massive, tannic and impenetrable. Time has released the beauty of this wine, and while there is still power in it, it has become deliciously approachable and delivers oodles of plump black fruits, herbs, spices and cassis. Wow.
