Description

Leroy - One of the best names in all of Burgundy and the wine world.

Pristine condition and immaculate provenance. Purchased from Vinum and cellared in a Eurocave wine fridge, other bottles of the same wine purchased at the same time were in excellent condition.

94/100 CellarTracker community tasting notes average score.

15/02/2011 - QRYAN LIKES THIS WINE: 92 Points
Still kicking--and more! Like my last bottle a couple years ago, this starts out tired. It is aromatically restrained and the palate is a bit flat. But after some air--really, like 2 hours of airs--this opens up and becomes a delightful cocktail of lemon cream, oranges, nuts, and some exotic fruit elements. 20 years has given this loads of complexity, and it's still a pretty intense, assertive Puligny. The only gripe is that it comes off as a bit blousy from the lack of acidity, and there's no real minerality. Nevertheless, this is a very well made wine that drinks beautifully for its age. I wouldn't be surprised if it continued to improve and drinks well in another decade still.

10/02/2011 - SJWSHIRAZ WROTE:
Drunk at a black truffle lunch at Les Amis in Singapore. Released from Leroy in 2009, so very good provenance.

Light to mid gold in colour, with slight flecks of green. No sign of its age.

A very appealing nose of nuts, green apple skin, honey, butter and lightly smoked bacon. Remarkably fresh.

The palate at first was quite closed, so the wine was decanted. This allowed some secondary nuances to develop. Sous bois and black truffles ? Perhaps this was the effect of the menu - the food and wine married well. Quite gentle acidity, and only moderate minerality, unlike some other of Leroy's whites (this was my only slight disappoinment with the wine, but true of the vintage as a whole). As the bottle progressed, the acidity faded and there was some botrytis and more honey evident in the background. This enhanced the experience as it showed another facet to the wine.

By this stage we were onto the Epoisses, (so the combination was magical), but as is all too frequently the case, the last glass was the best.

Overall a wine that would challenge many a Batard and a great bottle for a 19 year old premier cru.

17/02/2009 - QRYAN WROTE: 94 Points
Fascinating wine. Deep, deep golden aged color. Straight out of the bottle, the nose is incredible--citruis fruits, but also more exotic tropical aromas. On the palate, this started out closed, with some lemon and other citrus flavors, but was a bit flat. As it opened up, however, the lemon got more intense, and was coupled with some spice and a bit of nuttiness. The wine gained complexity as it breathed. Great acidity and admirable balance. I wouldn't call this wine fresh or racy, but it was quite harmonious, and is in no danger of fading. Perfectly mature, though, and highly pleasurable to drink.

25/12/2008 - 60OUVREES WROTE:
Deep golden color. A hint of alcohol and volatile acidity on the nose. There's also a liqueur-like, honeyed quality that I don't usually associate with white burgundy but with time a little citrus emerges as well. This started out very tight, and though it opened up considerably over the course of the evening, the acid still overpowers the fruit.

29/07/2007 - BURGBOB WROTE: 96 Points
Interesting and complesx wine. Light golden color, some butter and spice on nose. With half hour breathing, opened to reveal asian spices, butterscotch, and tremendous structure. Kept evolving, not improving but jsut changing, throughout. Can easily live five, maybe ten more years in a good cellar.
