Description

The grapes from four different Hermitage vineyards (Les Bessards,Les Greffieux,Le Meal, and Les Rocoules) make up the unique Syrah blend, which adds to the complexity of this renowned northern Rhone wine.

"Really deep,thick and black.Unbelievable "legs".This has a real cassis nose.Intense,classic,spicily scented.Crushed blackcurrants.Damp leaves.Massive wine.Huge tannic structure.Strong acidity,which augurs well for the future.Has everything.Will last for 50 years.Could this be like the '61? The formidable arrangement of fruit,acidity,and tannin gives it superpower status".

Serena Sutcliffe MW. (Sotheby's Vertical Tasting of Hermitage La Chapelle. September 2000).

"The 1996 Hermitage La Chapelle is immensely impressive, but in a completely different style. The acidity is much higher than either the 1997 or the 1998.The color is black/purple,and the wine is extremely concentrated, but unevolved and impossible to penetrate.Nevertheless,it is a massive effort, with extraordinary concentration, but the high acidity requires a minimum of ten years of cellaring".
(92+ Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. #125. October 1999).
