Description

The lot consists of three bottles of top Northern Rhone wine from the highly renowned producer Domaine Delas Freres - all excellent vintages:-

One bottle of 1999 Delas Cote Rotie Seigneur de Maugiron (92 Points RP).
One bottle of 1996 Delas Hermitage Les Bessards.
One bottle of 1996 Delas Hermitage Crozes-Hermitage Clos Saint-George.

The 1999 Delas Cote Rotie Seigneur de Maugiron is the finest Cote Rotie that Jacques Grange has produced, since he arrived at Delas.Robert Parker believes that 1999 is the greatest Cote Rotie vintage he has witnessed in nearly a quarter of a century of tasting there:-

"For pure opulence, concentration and extraordinary levels of glycerin and extract, the 1999 Cote Roties are exceptional. They are easily the finest vintage for this region since 1978".
"The 1999 Seigneur de Maugiron Cote Rotie is brilliant. It boasts a black/purple colour as well as sumptuous aromas of expresso, graphite, violets and blackberry/cassis fruit. This is underlined by abundant power, good acidity for definition as well as a freshness, and a superb pure finish. This exceptional Cote Rotie requires 4-5 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018".
(92 Points).

Robert Parker. (Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide. Sixth Edition).

However the Hermitage Les Bessards is the flagship cuvee of Delas Domaine, made only in top vintages, such as 1990 and 1991.This bottle of 1996 should now be at its peak.
La Revue du Vin de France awarded the 1996 Hermitage Les Bessards with wine 19/20 Points.

“The titan of the Delas portfolio is their luxury cuvee Hermitage Les Bessards. There are 500 cases of this offering, made from 70-year-old vines in the famed Les Bessards vineyard (the dominant vineyard of Chave’s great Hermitages)”.

Robert Parker. (Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide. Sixth Edition).

“In the second flight the Hermitage Les Bessards 1996 blew the roof off! It had a dark red, violet color,a plum, lavender, olive, tapenade, jasmine, and redcurrant nose.On the palate,it was rich, concentrated, young tart, plum and red fruits with pepper and “herbes de Provence” and a long finish”.
(96 Points).

Richard Jennings. (Rhone Tasting 19/9/2007).

“This unique cuvee illustrates the enormous potential of this incomparable vineyard.Colour is deep red.The nose is aromatic, with scents of berries, currants, and violets.Les Bessards 1996 is rich in the mouth with bold yet silky tannins and concentrated black cherry/plummy fruit. An exceptional wine, with a firm structure that will allow connoisseurs to reap the benefit of long cellaring”.
