Description

The last 3 bottle lot which until very recently were professionally cellared in the original wooden box.

Owned in '98 by the Belgian family Fourcroy, whose "little earner" has been 'Napoleon Mandarine' liqueur, a grim, sickly brew... but it did allow them to buy Château Franc Mayne, - but which they subsequently sold in 2005 to the present owners the Lavials who also own Ch de Lussac, Vieux-Maillet and St Jean de Lavaud.

Franc Mayne has around 8 hectares, planted with 90% merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Wines are aged 15-18 months in oak barrels - 70% new each vintage. The estate is supervised by Michel Rolland.

A wine well worth discovering especially in the very special merlot vintage of '98.

Robert Parker 88 Drink: 2003 - 2015
A very good effort, this medium-bodied 1998 reveals plenty of toasty new oak along with jammy black cherry and cassis fruit, excellent purity, medium to full body, sweet tannin, and fine overall symmetry. It will be at its prime between 2003-2015.

Wine Advocate #128
Apr 2000 Robert Parker (86-88) Drink: 2002 - 2014
The dark ruby/purple-coloured 1998 exhibits a rich, smoky, subtle, herb and black cherry-scented nose. This medium to full-bodied, concentrated, rich St.-Emilion reveals some tannin, but will offer pleasant drinking after another 1-2 years of bottle age. It should last for 12-14 years. It is a very good effort for this estate.

Straight from the original wooden case, opened for these photos, all the bottles are in perfect condition and are wrapped in original paper - a nice touch and rare these days.
