Description

Daniel and Florence Cathiard purchased Smith-Haut-Lafitte in 1990 and have since fashioned one of the consistently most outstanding wines,both red and white,over the last two decades,culminating with Robert Parker awarding their 2009 vintage with 100 Points.
1998 was an excellent year for Pessac-Leognan,when (unlike the chateaux in the Medoc,which had a poor vintage) being further south,the vineyards were able to harvest their grapes before the heavy rains in late September.


"Since the acquisition of this estate in 1990,this chateau has become one of Bordeaux's success stories,producing,elegant,flavorful,complex,and very complete wines".
"The 1998 Smith-Haut-Lafitte is a beautiful wine of symmetry,finesse and elegance.This deep ruby/purple offering reveals classic aromas of black currants,new wood,and scorched earth.This pure,medium-bodied,restrained,measured,graceful 1998 offers impressive overall symmetry as well as well-integrated tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2018".
