Description

A pair of well presented bottles from the 1998 vintage. Chateau Coufran is unique in the Medoc for having 85% merlot and just 15% cabernet-sauvignon.
This fell fortuitously in the impressive 'merlot' vintage of '98.

Levels: Well Into Neck
Labels: complete but a '3' is written on each bottle on the right hand side - a bin reference perhaps.
Capsules: Embossed and 'as new'.

This chateau is well known as a value wine and I'm sure opinions vary quite a bit. This wine retains a bit of its youth, quite impressive for 14 year old merlot based "cru bourgeois"". Popped and poured (from magnum). Continues to impress. I have enjoyed the 96 on several occasions, and although a weaker vintage on paper, I actually found the 98 superior. Smooth Merlot dominated aged Bordeaux – nothing too fancy or complex – just a solid and reasonably priced wine. Drinking beautifully at the moment – nothing to be gained by waiting, but there’s no need to rush either.
