Description

The lot consists of three bottles of claret from the outstanding 1998 Right Bank vintage:-

One bottle of 1998 Chateau Canon de Brem (Jean-Pierre Moueix) Canon Fronsac.
Two bottles of 1998 Chateau Cote de Baleau (Reiffers) St.Emilion Grand Cru.

In 1998,Bordeaux's Right Bank wines performed magnificently, because the ripe Merlot crop was harvested before the heavy rains of late September.
The Left Bank wines had a less good vintage, because the Cabernet Sauvignon and other grape varietals were still not picked when the severe rainfall arrived.

"A sleeper of the vintage, the 1998 Canon de Brem exhibits aromas of minerals, scorched earth, black cherries, and raspberries. This dense, concentrated, classic effort possesses firm tannin as well as excellent potential for longevity.Pure and balanced,it is reminiscent of a top-class St.Emilion. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015".
(88 Points).

"This wine's upbringing is overseen by the omnipresent Michel Rolland.
The 1998 Cote de Baleau a serious tight-fisted St.Emilion, this dense ruby/purple effort reveals impressive thickness as well as notes of minerals, flowers, cherries, and spice box that are reminiscent of the aromas in hillside St.Emilions such as Canon and Ausone.Well delineated and elegant, with a terrific mid-palate and finish,it requires 3-4 years of cellaring, and could turn out to be outstanding if it fleshes out and the tannin becomes sweeter and better integrated. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020.
(89+ Points).

Both the above wine tasting notes taken from Robert Parker's book "Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide. Sixth Edition".
