Description

The lot consists of three bottles of Gigondas from the excellent 1999 vintage:-

Two bottles of 1999 Domaine du Cayron Gigondas.
One bottle of 1999 Chateau St.Cosme Gigondas.

In Robert Parker's "The Wine Advocate" in October 2000,he rates both Domaine du Cayron and Chateau St.Cosme as two of the most profound wines produced in Gigondas.


"Also a very good to excellent vintage in Gigondas,1999 produced slightly less massive and rustic wines (than 1998),but with sweeter tannin,more supple textures,and even more saturated colors.If the vintages differ stylistically,qualitatively they are very close.Overall,both vintages offer copious quantities of wine.This is another appellation where an increasing number of estates are pushing the envelop of quality".


"The 1999 du Cayron Gigondas appears to be a return to the blockbuster,artisinal style favoured by this estate.Savage blackberry,wild herb,licorice,tapenade,and smoked meat aromas emerge from the complex bouquet.Full-bodied,with tremendous intensity,low acidity,and super fat and ripeness,this should be a mouth-staining,corpulent Gigondas"

"The Chateau St.Cosme 1999 Gigondas (a blend of 70% Grenache,25% Syrah,and 5% Cinsault) is an outstanding wine.A dense opaque black/purple color is followed by sweet aromas of blackberry fruit,roasted meats,and cassis.Chewy,full-bodied,superbly concentrated and well-balanced".
