The elegant restrained 1999 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf du Pape may not possess the power,majesty or aging potential of the 2000 or the 1998,but it is a stylish effort.Dark,ruby-colored,with a bouquet of sweet black fruit intertwined with mineral,licorice,and resin,it is layered,long,and deep,with bright acidity as well as firm tannin on the finish.Cellar it for several years,and drink it over the following 12-15. Sandwiched between the full-throttle 1998 and 2000,Vieux Telegraphe's 1999 will be overlooked. (Written approx.2001).
