Description

Butcher's Block is a traditional Barossa blend of grapes from the Turkey Flat vineyards, including some from the original old vine plantings. In 2001 the blend was 44% Mourvedre,36% Shiraz, and 20% Grenache. It's a big, voluptuous 14.5% alcohol drop: fleshy, sweet, and opulent. It drinks well with rustic foods, game and offal - especially steak and kidney pie!

"Fashioned from 44% Matara (Mourvedre),36% Shiraz,and 20% Grenache,the 2001 Butcher's Block reveals a deeply pigmented ruby/purple color,excellent texture,and sweet aromas and flavors of kirsch,blackberries,and sandalwood,possessing plenty of power,as well as a chewy,rich,thick finish".
(91 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate.#148. August 2003).

"Each varietal component of this wine was vinified separately in large oak vats and subsequently matured in French oak hogsheads for 20 months. The result is a warm,earthy,full-bodied red, with seamless oak integration.
The nose is spicy and complex, with aromas of leafy raspberry, cherry, and sandalwood, with hints of cocoa, sage, leather, and white pepper. The palate displays flavours of black cherries, spice, red currants and pepper with an appealing soft tannic finish".

Turkey Flat winemakers notes on the 2001 Butcher's Block red wine.

"With a name like Butcher's Block, this is probably not a wine for vegetarians, although its organic status may win them round.A blend of Mataro (Mouvedre),Shiraz, and Grenache, that's a minty silky-tannined powerhouse".
