Description

"Fabulous texture with elegant yet subtle notes of crushed cherries, earth, blackberry, chocolate pepper and saddle leather. The tannins are almost melted as with the Exile and there is a superb backbone and lift to the wine before a long bright finish. A beautiful bouquet of cassis, blueberries, raspberry, violet, pepper, smoked meats and eucalyptus bring this wine alive! This wine will evolve beautifully in bottle over the next 10 or so years."

Émigré is sourced from the Colonial-owned vineyards and is made up of old-vine Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre, Muscadelle, and Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the vineyards comprising Grenache and Mourvedre surround the stone built winery.

The wine is the product of diligent viticulture. Spur-pruning, canopy management, green harvesting, and handpicking all come together to produce ripe, pure bunches of grapes that are subjected to double-triage before being conveyed into new wooden vats. Oak barrels from French coopers complete the wine's formation. Final soft pressing is undertaken in an imported basket press.

The wine has a roundness and innate harmony, which belies its intensity, strength, and concentration

Dense, spicy and vibrant, with super concentrated, sharply delineated flavors and a bright, very long finish.


The Colonial Estate’s approach to making wines in Australia has been French. Handpicking, sorting tables where they sort individual grapes, wooden vats etc: This is what separates The Colonial Estate from most Australian wineries. No expense has been spared with only the finest of winemaking practises being utilised. Brand new French Oak, French bottles, labels etc and flying over Chateau Teyssier’s winemaker for each vintage to produce wines of outstanding stature set them apart from all others.

Sadly, Colonial Estate no longer produces wine so these bottles are likely to become collectables.
