Description

The average age of these De La Tour Vieilles Vignes is 90 years. Some of these incredibly gnarled, ancient vines were planted just after the Crimean War and produce tiny yields of great intensity.Underpinning innate opulence, there is a ripe,well-integrated structure, which will allow the wines to age well.

(Berry Bros. & Rudd description).

Please note that this is the Vieilles Vignes Cuvee, which is infinitely more concentrated and intense than the De La Tour basic Clos Vougeot wine.
The De La Tour wines are the only Clos-Vougeot wines that are grown, harvested, vinified and bottled at Clos-Vougeot.

"This too is very densely fruited, with the same intense floral notes, but here the fruit is darker with blue and black berry aromas that continue onto the palate, saturating and hugely concentrated flavors that exude power and punch, yet there is real depth as well, all wrapped in a very firmly but not aggressively structured finish that leaves no doubt that this will last for fifty years or longer".
(92-95 Points).

Allen Meadows. (Burghound.com #25. January 2007).

At a dinner party in December 2011,this wine was considered the best red tasted that evening. The old vines were obviously a major contributory factor. For a Burgundy, the wine was amazingly dense and complex, with great structure, and because of the extraordinary huge, discreet tannins should have great longevity and no doubt will improve further in quality over the years ahead.
