Description

The lot consists of two bottles of Chateau Pontet-Canet from the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux. Both vintages have excellent tasting notes from the experts (see below):-

One bottle of 2006 Pontet-Canet (95+Pts RP...94 Pts ST...93 Pts JS).
One bottle of 2007 Pontet-Canet (95 Pts JS...94 Pts WE...92 Pts ST).

Tasting notes on the 2006 Pontet-Canet:-

"The 2006 is a wine to stockpile, especially for those in their thirties and forties as it needs another decade to reach maturity, after which it should keep for 30+ years. This vineyard, just south of Mouton Rothschild, has produced an opaque bluish/purple-colored 2006 with an extraordinarily pure nose of graphite, charcoal, sweet creme de cassis, and a hint of scorched earth. Incredible concentration, stunning richness, and a 60-second finish result in a wine that transcends the vintage as well as this estate's 1855 classification. This enormously endowed, modern day classic is a legend in the making. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2050+".
(95+ Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. February 2009).

"Saturated medium ruby. Inky cassis, black raspberry, graphite and pungent minerality on the very ripe nose. Dense, rich and silky, with a brooding inky minerality and an almost liqueur-like dark fruit sweetness leavened by a savory peppery element. This very ripe, deep and concentrated wine boasts wonderful lushness without any undue weight thanks to its sheer energy. Like its neighbour Mouton-Rothschild, Pontet-Canet's 2006 conveys a powerful impression of soil character. Finishes with serious dusty tannins and superb lingering sweetness. Should be long-lived".
(94 Points).

Stephen Tanzer. (International Wine Cellar. May 2009).

"Blackberry, currant and plum tart aromas lead to a full body, with a solid core of fruit, sweet fruit and silky tannins. Generous and round, with lovely richness for the vintage. Best after 2014".
(93 Points).

James Suckling. (The Wine Spectator. March 2009).

Tasting notes on the 2007 Pontet-Canet:-

"Wow. Minerals, cedar, almost like warm stones in the heat. And then some spice. A wine that’s gorgeous, beautiful to taste now, but you know there’s so much more coming to it. Will be better in three to five years. But it’s already gorgeous – decant a couple hours in advance".
(95 Points).

James Suckling. (JamesSuckling.com April 2012).

"Slowly the potential of this impressive wine is coming out. It is rich, the new wood flavors blending with the ripe blackberry sweetness and tight tannins. Chocolate flavor power through this concentrated wine".
(94 Points).

The Wine Enthusiast. (April 2010).

"Deep ruby-red. The nose shows an almost exotic ripeness but also a high-pitched quality to the aromas of fruitcake, graphite and spicy oak. Dense and intensely flavored but at the same time quite juicy and penetrating, with terrific lift to its dark fruit flavors. An outperformer for the vintage, this rather powerfully structured wine has a serious spine for aging".
(92 Points).

Stephen Tanzer. (Vinous. July 2010).

No Buyer's Premium payable on this lot.

These bottles were bought on release and have since been stored in a purpose-built,temperature-controlled cellar. Both labels have slight vertical marks, and the 2006 label has a vertical tear, which has obliterated the 2 on the 2006 date. The wine fills on both the bottles are high into neck and the capsules are in excellent condition.
