Description

This is a selection of good white Burgundies from the 2014, 2015 and 2016 vintages, for drinking this year and next. All bought en primeur and stored in WS reserves, some drink dates updated from cellartracker. Descriptions from original brochure:
1 bot Chablis PC Vaillons Dme William Fèvre 2014
Drinking 2018–2025. Intense, fresh lemon-zest scented wine with a steely palate and impressive ‘cut’. 30% is barrel-fermented.
1 bot Meursault Olivier Leflaive 2015
Drinking 2019–2024. This is a very successful cuvée. Franck Grux draws from both the flat and the hillside vineyards to produce a typically buttery yet broad wine, with good grip and structure supporting the ample fruit. Well balanced.
1 bot Pouilly Fuissé Vers Pouilly Ch de Beauregard 2015
Drinking 2019–2023. There’s something special about Vers Pouilly, which lies in Fuissé but on the border with Pouilly. It is the marnes, a clay soil with a high limestone content, which produces fine-flavoured yet powerful wines. Rich, dense palate and great aromatic complexity.
1 bot Pouilly Fuissé Hommage à Léonard Chandon Ch du Clos 2015
Drinking 2019–2023. From the oldest vines of the Clos, the most ancient planted in 1936, others in the 1950s, this is even richer and more powerful than the Pouilly above. It is big, muscular and well proportioned. The clay soils and thick-skinned grapes contribute structure and a high dry extract for a long life.
1 bot Puligny Montrachet Les Enseignères Olivier Leflaive 2015
Drinking 2019–2024. Enseignères is a very well-placed vineyard, situated just below grand cru Bâtard-Montrachet. This comes from a 1ha parcel where Leflaive manage the vineyard. Despite the heat this has retained the floral, honeysuckle Puligny character. Apple-fresh palate.
1 bot Pouilly Fuissé Les Birbettes Ch des Rontets 2016
Drinking 2020–2024. Very fine in 2016, Rontets’ top wine offers fresh appley aromas tinged with honey and a firm taut palate. It comes from a vineyard originally planted in the 1920s, with some replanting since, and given 20 months’ maturation in pièces.
