Description

Alsace Gewürztraminer mixed lot of six bottles from 1998 to 2008.

One bottle of Gewürztraminer Hengst 1998, Alsace Grand Cru, Wunsch & Mann.

Two bottles of Clos St Imer La Chappelle Gewürztraminer Goldert 1999, Alsace Grand Cru, Domaine Ernest Burn.

One bottle of Gewürztraminer Prestige 2002, Paul et Philippe Zinck.

One bottle of Gewürztraminer Wintzenheim 2005, Domaine Zind Humbrecht.

One bottle of Gewurztraminer Brand 2008, Alsace Grand Cru, Cave de Turckheim.

Hengst is an Alsace Grand Cru vineyard and corresponding appellation in the historic village of Wintzenheim in Alsace, north-eastern France. It is among the more southerly of the 51 Grand Cru sites dotted along the eastern slopes of the Vosges Mountains.

Clos Saint Imer is one of Alsace's famous clos vineyards. Located in the village of Gueberschwihr in the south of Alsace, the 12-acre (5-ha) vineyard is a monopole of the Burn family. It was purchased in 1934 by Ernest Burn, who set about restoring the land, reuniting the plots into which it had been divided. The walled vineyard is situated immediately north of Gueberschwihr, on the highest slopes of the Goldert Grand Cru site. Its wines may therefore bear the Goldert name in addition to that of the clos and the Alsace Grand Cru title.

Philippe Zinck runs the Zinck estate with his wife Pascale. Philippe's father Paul set up the estate in 1964 with just 2.5 hectares though the family have farmed vineyards in the area for several generations. The estate covers 20 hectares and has been run on organic lines since 2011

The Cave de Turckheim is one of Alsace’s top co-operatives. It has been going since 1955. It is extremely well run and offers excellent value for money.

A note on the Zind Humbrecht from Cellartracker under the general heading of ‘The Magical 2005 Vintage at Domaine Zind Humbrecht”:

“2005 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Wintzenheim 91 Points
Light yellow in the glass, this is a Gewurz that really shows the spicy side of the varietal. A little richer than the generic bottling but more reserved today. Seems to be holding something back and will be even better in a few year's time. 50+13+12+8+8=91+”. (April 2007).

Finally a Cellartracker note on the Brand from Turckheim:

“9/10/2015 - alanh13 wrote:
I've held this since mid 2010, in mixed conditions. However this seems to be in great shape,: v good ullage, nice clean cork, smells perfect. Quite spätlese-like, sweet yet rich and complex. With tomato soup those classic Gewürztraminer lychee notes appear for first time. This is lovely.”
The bottles on sale are those shown in the photographs. They all have good levels and capsules and the labels are generally decent subject to a few scuff marks on several of the labels as shown.
