Description

Cerbaiona is just east of Montalcino. It was founded in the late 1970s when Diego Molinari retired from his career as an airline pilot and with his wife Nora bought the 8-acre estate, which was in disrepair. Cerbaiona is known for its Brunello di Montalcino though it also makes a Rosso di Montalcino. The wines win high praise from reviewers, including Gambero Rosso, Italy’s leading wine journal, which frequently awards Cerbaiona wines with 3 glasses, the highest rating. Robert M. Parker Jr. has written that “Diego Molinari regularly turns out some of the most inspiring wines in the region. His Brunello is a classically built, structured wine that expresses the very essence of Sangiovese from Montalcino.”

Around 7000 bottles of Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino made every year.

"The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino impresses for its elegance, balance and class. Silky, finessed tannins frame dark cherries, flowers, minerals, menthol, tobacco and spices. The 2005 doesn’t have the kaleidoscopic, multi-dimensional personality of the finest Brunellos here, but it reveals outstanding length and plenty of style, albeit in a smaller-scaled, lithe expression of this site. Ideally, readers should open the wine several hours prior to serving. It is a wonderful effort in this vintage. 2010-2020." - Antonio Galloni (Apr 2010)
