Description

Average 91.2pts on CellarTracker.

'The dark ruby/garnet-colored 1985 Gruaud-Larose has evolved beautifully. It exhibits a lovely, sweet, fragrant bouquet of berry fruit, truffles, earth, and smoky oak. On the palate, the wine is fat, long, forward for Gruaud, medium to full bodied, and deep. This is one of the few Gruauds to drink well from bottle. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005. Last tasted 6/97 90pts'

Drink: 1997 - 2005

'This is certainly more mature in appearance compared to the 1986 with a noticeable light brick rim. The nose is a little “softer” than the ensuing vintage with dates, cedar, a touch of pencil shavings and a touch of walnuts. A typical 1985 in terms of mouthfeel: fleshy, slightly lower acidity than the 1986, very approachable and very well balanced. Good definition, very focused towards the finish, this wine is drinking beautifully now. Feminine and graceful, with an understated, sensuous finish. Excellent. Drink now-2020. Tasted October 2007. 93pts'
