Description

Tasted recently by both Robert Parker and Neal Martin at The Wine Advocate:

Robert Parker, June 2009, 95 points:
"This was tasted from magnum as it is the only format I have left in the cellar. Some noticeable bricking and amber at the edge are followed by stunning aromatics of loamy soil, underbrush, kirsch, and oak as well as floral undertones. There are no hard edges to be found in this silky wine, just plush notes of jammy black cherries, plums, figs, earth, and spice. Broad and full-bodied with fully melted tannins, good minerality, and a long finish, this is one of the finest l’Arrosees ever made. It has been mature for at least a decade, but shows no signs of falling apart. It will keep for at least another decade."

Neal Martin, Nov 2012, 93 points:
"Tasted at Pebbles/Zachy’s 1982 dinner in Hong Kong. A strong performance from one of the unheralded Saint Emilion stars of this vintage. The 1982 has a superb bouquet that is undimmed by time: black cherries, mulberry and dark plum being usurped by secondary notes of singed leather and iodine. It is well defined with impressive vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins but plenty of lightly peppered fruit to keep it balanced and vibrant. There is a gentle grip and a convincing finish of black truffle and tobacco-laced black fruit and in retrospect, there is an abiding sense of completeness to this Saint Emilion. Very fine indeed!"
