Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2000 "Cuvee Prestige" Roger Sabon 92 Parker points

Parker rates at 92 points and adds:
"The Cuvee Prestige is full-bodied, sexy, concentrated, and loaded with the essence of Provence. The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige smells like liqueur of black pepper intermixed with lavender, game, and black fruits. It tastes so much like Provence that one almost expects some of their famous miniature figurines (santons) to jump out of the glass. Ripe, layered, and spicy, with soaring aromatics, this fleshy, chewy 2000 is undoubtedly hiding some serious tannin. Anticipated maturity: now-2016".

Still pretty full robe. Nicely open, broad bouquet - jam content here, persists, good local dabs, also a little grainy. Good fruit core on palate, brewed and simmered style fruit, Has some earthy, rounded tannins. Red fruit re-merges on finish. Has reached a comfortable, also down-home stage - the vintage shape is that earthy, brewed one. Length sound enough. Drink with wintry foods. Really good 2005-09. 2015-17 September 2005, London".
They are mainly Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, but they put Muscardin, Terret, Vaccarèse and Counoise in their Cuvée Prestige. From 1997, all of the grapes were totally destemmed. The fermentation takes place in small cement vats and small stainless steel cuves, with pumping over and a cuvaison which lasts for 20 days at a temperature of between 30° and 34°.
