CNDP Mourre des Perdrix Domaine de la Charbonniere & Vieilles Vignes mixed vintages

1 x bottle of 1995 Cuvee Vieilles Vignes Parker rates 90 points
1 x bottle of 2000 Cuvee Mourre des Perdrix Parker rates 91 points
1 x bottle of 2001 Cuvee Mourre des Perdrix Parker rates 92 points

Some Parker notes:
2001: 92 points
A noble Chateauneuf du Pape with a grand cru Burgundy-like aromatic display, the 2001 Mourre des Perdrix possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as a big, sweet nose that reminded me of a Flagey-Echezeaux. Aromas of raspberries, acacia flowers, and blackberries are followed by a southern Rhone-styled wine possessing large volume as well as a chewy texture. However, there is tremendous elegance and finesse in this full-bodied, precise, fresh, deep, rich, concentrated 2001. Drink this beauty over the next 12-14 years. For statisticians, it comes from a lieu-dit in the northeastern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape, just west of the village of Courthezon. Made from 30-50 year old vines, it is a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre.

2000: 91 points
The single vineyard Chateauneuf du Pape Mourre des Perdrix emerges from a vineyard in the northeastern sector of the appellation, just west of Courthezon. Maret's parcel includes 30-50 year old vines. The blend is 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre. The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Mourre des Perdrix possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as a gamy, earthy nose with plenty of black fruit, dried herb, tapenade, balsam wood, and sweet cherry/currant fruit aromas. This classy, complex 2000 marries power and elegance in a medium to full-bodied, pure style. Anticipated maturity: now-2014.

1995 Vieilles Vignes: 90/91 points
Last year I touted the wines of Michel Maret. I liked them so much that I ordered some for my cellar. Michel Maret's top cuvee is his Cuvee Vieilles Vignes. The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is reminiscent of a young, classic 1989 Chateauneuf du Pape. It is a true vin de garde in its tannic, backward, formidable style. The color is opaque purple, and the wine is rich, pure, and impressive, but it is not meant for those wanting an up-front, flattering, delicious Chateauneuf du Pape for immediate consumption. Based on my tasting in June, this wine needs another 4-5 years of cellaring. It is one of those rare Chateauneuf du Papes that will improve and age well for 15-20 years.
