WOW! Considering the age of this wine, it was a joy to drink. Upon opening, the cork crumble into the bottle, but not until the cork screw was screwed in. As expected, lots of thick sediment and plenty of fine sediment went through the screen of the aerator. Brick orange in color with enough life that this wine will go on longer.

Loved this - velvety texture, sweet but fresh, figs and violets.

9/7/2013 - GARYHOHIO WROTE:94 Points
We opened the bottle around 1am after a long evening of great food and great wine. I also brought Macanudo 1997 Certified Vintage cigars to enjoy with the Port. Even though I used gentle pressure, the cork slid into the bottle intact. I then decanted the bottle which had about an inch of sediment at the bottom.
The result was an absolutely amazing Port.
It was simply elegant, smooth as silk, light garnet in the glass, nose of sweet flowers, cherries and raisins on the palate with just a touch of heat on the finish, long finish, excellent.

Gorgeous. Celebrating the big 50. Bottle and cork in perfect condition. Did not decant, as I believe the wine will last longer in the bottle with the sediment. Opened about three hours before drinking. Ruby color with some bricking just beginning to form on the edges. Dark cherries with a hint of alcohol on the finish. Beautifully integrated. Surprised how youthful and vibrant this is. Many years ahead of it if properly stored. Hope it is a good omen!
