Description

Just taken from Bond in perfect condition
93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Looking at the 2012 Cornas releases, the 2012 Cornas les Chailles (100% Syrah from the Les Chailles lieu-dit, aged in 2- to 5-year-old white-wine barrels) is stunning stuff that could rival the 2010 and 2011 in another couple of years. Offering up terrific cassis, black raspberry, crushed rock and licorice aromas and flavors, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and seamless, with awesome purity. Already hard to resist, this puppy will evolve gracefully for upward of a decade. These awesome wines are made by Alberic Mazoyer. They show relatively modern styles in their youth, but this is due more to the high quality of the grapes and to first-rate winemaking more than the use of new oak, as most only see 15% new barrels or less. His 2012s check in near the top of the vintage and come close to what this estate produced in 2010, which is saying something. While I think the 2013s are a step back, they're easily some of the best wines in the vintage. You can't go wrong here. (12/2014)
93 points Wine Spectator
Shows lovely drive and energy from the start, with anise, plum, violet, white pepper, briar and iron notes seamlessly woven together and stretching out through the long finish. A chalky undertow adds contrast and tension. (10/2013)
91-93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Brilliant ruby. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of dried cherry, violet and spicecake, with a subtle mineral overtone and a hint of black tea. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering lively dark berry flavors and a deeper note of bitter chocolate. A touch of black pepper adds lift and bite to the long, spicy, youthfully tannic finish. (3/2014)
Jancis Robinson
Deep cherry red. Smoky dark fruit and wonderfully dusty and inviting. More reserved than some. Dry, mineral and refined. Tannins are so elegant and still provide a fine framework for this elegant wine. 17/20 points. Drink 2016 - 2023 (11/2013)
