Description

Although the 2002 vintage presented its challenges to the Napa Valley, diversification of fruit sources available to Duckhorn and the reputed estate's commitment to great, age worthy wine is evident in these new releases. This Merlot is full-bodied with layers of fruit that are well integrated with the tannins and result in a long finish. The aroma is deeply layered with blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, vanilla, caramel and a hint of herbs. The flavors are lush and ripe with an appealing taste of raspberry initially balanced by rich oak flavors in the finish. 87% merlot, 9% cabernet sauvignon, 3% cabernet franc, 1% petit verdot, aged for 16 months in 100% French oak barrels, 40% new, 60% second vintage.
