Description

1947 - the second of the three great post war vintages. This lovely bottle has no label and was identified as Papes clement as it was part of a 6 bottle collection of the same from a private wine cellar. 4 bottles have labels that are peeling off showing the date and name. Capsule (orange) is in good condition, slight oxidation on top. Papes Clemet shield embossed on the bottle. Level is upper middle shoulder. i have another bottle of the same at lower mid shoulder, no label, capsule cut to reveal cork but still sealing the top. Look at the following comments on this wine at a tasting at Alain Ducasse restaurant by wine journalist and taster, Stuart George:

"I have been to Pape Clément only once but I have met its owner Bernard Magrez several times. I was seated next to him at a lunch that he hosted at Alain Ducasse’s restaurant at The Dorchester a couple of years ago. There was a remarkably high turnout for that tasting and lunch by my wine writing colleagues! The 1947, however, was a lovely old wine, still articulate but so tertiary that it was unrecognisable as Pape Clément. Like the 1961, it was representative of its ripe, rich vintage."
