'Monier de la Sizeranne 2006 from M. Chapoutier: a round and elegant Hermitage
Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne from M. Chapoutier is a red wine produced from Syrah and produced in the Hermitage appellation. Certified in organic and biodynamic agriculture, the vines are grown on three distinct terroirs (the Bessards, Meal, Greffieux) which gives the wine its special qualities. The Bessards are composed of granite soil. Meal is a mixture of old alluvial terraces rich in gravel, stones and limestone. Greffuses has a lot of silt mixed with stones. Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne 2006 from M. Chapoutier was matured for 12-14 months in oak barrels, with racking.
Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne 2006 from M. Chapoutier reveals a deep red garnet colour. The nose develops aromas of raspberries and blackcurrants along with liquorice and some spices. After an attention-grabbing attack, the wine is round and elegant, offering concentrated and supple tannins. The finish develops notes of blackcurrant and raspberries.' Millesima Bordeaux

'The top-notch 2006 Ermitage La Sizeranne boasts an opaque ruby/purple color along with a sweet bouquet of black raspberries, creme de cassis, acacia flowers, crushed rocks, and subtle wood. Full-bodied, rich, and broad with moderate tannin, good acidity, and a long finish, the 2006 will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age, and keep for 15+ years.' Robert Parker, Wine Advocate. 92/100

'Cask sample. Very dark purplish crimson. Lift to this molten tar of a wine – amazingly! So much tannin that its build is almost reminiscent of an Australian Shiraz, which Chapoutier of course also makes. This demands great patience. So dry on the finish! Ramrod structure. Pretty austere at the moment.' Jancis Robinson 17.5++/20 (tasted May 2008)
