Description

1998
Great vintage ***** Michael Broadbent

The second wine of Vieux Telegraphe

The wine was a crimson red with thick legs. Very rich with extremely sweet tannins. It was drinking very well now but will last in my opinion. Ripe berry, raisin and plum notes which carry into the long elegant finish. Medium to full bodied. This wine really stood out. 91-92 points. Wine Spectator

Interesting CdP. Bought this from a local store recently and it did deliver a fairly high level of satisfaction that I would expect from a '98 CdP

12/12/2010 - GROSSIE WROTE:91 Points
Drinking very well right now- earthy nose, rich fruit. A bit drying on the finish, I think it probably has the fruit to hold on a few more years and the tannins would resolve a bit more, which would improve this wine a point or two.

4/19/2010 - AVENUEAAND6TH WROTE:97 Points
This wine was full in every respect - verging on Amarone fullness. Had great balance, slight pepper, rich dark fruit that had not faded, and excellent length. It was a huge surprise - perhaps the largest "upside" surprise on a wine for a couple of years. The first of a dozen or so 98 CndP's we have, and looking forward to the rest.

The second wine of Vieux Telegraphe

4/7/2007 - OTISABDUL WROTE:88 Points
Soft and ready to drink. Liked its supple texture. Plenty of fruit and spice coming through.

9/3/2006 - MOORESE WROTE:88 Points
A surprising showing for this second bottle. This wine is drinking rather young with exuberant dark fruit and a purple hue that shows no signs of age. The fruit is delicious, outside of a bit of liquorice.

Vieux Telegraphe Dinner with Henri Brunier's daughter Catherine (Backstreet Wine Salon, Phoenix): This is a bottling of the young vines of Vieux Telegraphe named for the house where Catherine’s brother Frederick lives (located in the middle of the vineyard on the La Crau plateau if I am not mistaken)
