Description

A mixed case of Domaine William Fèvre Grand Cru Chablis comprising the following:

2 x Bougros - Côte de Bouguerots 2000
2 x Bougros - Côte de Bouguerots 2002
2 x Bougros - Côte de Bouguerots 2004
3 x Les Preuses 2004
1 x Valmur 2004
2 x Vaudésir 2004

Very highly rated by Allen Meadows (Burghound) whose in bottle scores for these wines are respectively 95, 94, 93, 95, 94, 94. His reviews are as follows:

Bougros - Côte de Bouguerots 2000

The wines of Bougros can often be a bit rude and rustic but the purity and precision are even a notch up from the stunning Valmur. Very linear and powerful aromas introduce magnificently precise, taut, edgy, muscular flavors yet somehow, this remains understated and completely in harmony. This builds and builds until it finally explodes on the superbly long back end with a sense of crystalline minerality. This is one of those wines where all you can say is "WOW".
Tasted: Oct 01, 2002 Score: 95 Drink: 2009-18

Bougros - Côte de Bouguerots 2002

The subtle hint of wood spice this displayed in its youth has now been completely absorbed which gives full rein to the wonderfully complex nose of minerals, white flowers and a hint of crushed oyster shells that introduces muscular, powerful, deep and broad flavors that are blessed with superb length and terrific vibrancy. Those that may doubt that Bougros merits its grand cru status need only experience this wine to be persuaded. A great effort that is drinking well already though for my taste, it needs another 2 to 4 years in the cellar first. I have tasted this wine many times with consistent notes.
Tasted: Jul 27, 2008 Score: 94 Drink: Try from 2010+

Bougros - Côte de Bouguerots 2004

Brioche and obvious mineral notes can be found on the expressive and perfumed floral nose that lead to stunningly vibrant and energetic flavors that explode on the hugely long and almost painfully intense finish. In sum, this is a powerful yet tautly focused wine that is more a thoroughbred than linebacker and this should give the 2002 version a serious run for its money.
Tasted: Oct 01, 2006 Score: 93 Drink: 2010+

Les Preuses 2004

As I suggested in my in-barrel review, this had the potential to be a first rate stunner of a wine and it has indeed come together. In fact, I see no need to modify the original note, which I repeat here other than to point out that as good as the Valmur and Vaudésir, there is another dimension present here. Green fruit and citrus aromas with a subtle trace of quinine serve to highlight round, sweet and powerful flavors that possess enormous depth of material and the vibrancy of the finish is flat out unbelievable. In a sense, this is a deceptive wine in that no more than the finish appears to be winding down then it picks up again. At present, this is the longest and most persistent wine in the range and while this aspect is subject to change with time, it is a dazzling effort that vies credibly for top honors. I could still taste this wine the next day!
Tasted: Oct 01, 2006 Score: 95 Drink: 2011+

Valmur 2004

As one might expect, this is not only more elegant but it's the most elegant wine in the entire lineup, closely challenged only by the Les Clos. The perfumed, high-toned and classically styled nose features subtle spice, floral, reserved green fruit cut with oyster shell and iodine notes plus that unmistakable sea salt nuance that says "Chablis!" leads to textured and superbly defined, refined and focused flavors that are crystalline in character, all wrapped in an explosively long finish that is like rolling pebbles around in the mouth. While there are several wines in this range that may rival the Valmur qualitatively, this is a one seriously stunning wine and in particular, the transparency and harmony of expression are worth the price of admission alone. Highly recommended and this should age well for up to a decade, perhaps a bit longer.
Tasted: Oct 01, 2006 Score: 94 Drink: 2011+

Vaudésir 2004

This is aromatically quite a bit riper with peach, pear and subtle exotic notes yet this remains extremely fresh while introducing spicy, rich and full flavors that display a bit of pain grillé and vanilla on the big, powerful and punchy finish that goes on and on seemingly without end. This possesses lots of personality and while the Valmur, for all its purity and grace makes for an understated effort, the Vaudésir is far more expressive, indeed showier though by no means vulgar or common. A completely different expression from the Les Clos and Valmur and in short, this is a real stunner of a wine.
