Description

This comprises 2 bottles of each of the following wines:

2004 Domaine des Lambrays Morey St Denis 1er Cru - Les Loups
2003 Domaine Lucien Boillot Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes
2002 Domaine Vincent Girardin Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravieres VV
2000 Domaine Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fourneaux
1998 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques VV
1993 Domaine Denis Mugneret Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Les Petits Monts

The reason for sale is to reduce holdings of these wines to clear some space for some other wine I need to take out of storage (too much wine!) but also to boost my 2009 wine buying budget! With the latter in mind I have tried to select wine from an attractive range of vintages, domaines and vineyards.

Burghound notes as follows:

2004 Morey St.-Denis – Les Loups: (a blend of two premiers crus, La Riotte and Le Village plus 50% young vines Clos des
Lambrays). A step up in ripeness with a spicy briar, earth and red berry fruit nose that complements the rich, full and sweet
sappy flavors that display undertones of pepper and game, all wrapped in a delicious, mouth coating and long finish. This is a
lovely effort of moderate structure and should require the better part of a decade to arrive at its peak. (88-91)/2012+

2003 Gevrey-Chambertin “Les Cherbaudes”: (80 year old vines). A sweet mix of black fruit and plum notes introduce
surprisingly austere but extremely concentrated flavors given how ripe the nose is. The wonderfully long finish is velvety and
structured but with plenty of buffering sap. This is an impressive wine that will also require time. (88-91)/2010+

2002 Santenay “Les Gravières”: A blended style as this has distinct new world aromas and classic flavors with a pungent
earthiness on the nicely intense finish. The tannins are round, ripe and rustic but I like the complexity. 86/2006+ (drink starting 2006) 86 points

2000 Savigny-lès-Beaune “Aux Fourneaux”: (from 40 year old vines). This is almost a blend of the
Serpentières and the Guettes as there is size, richness and excellent focus and detail with a long, lingering finish
and plenty of finesse. This is delicious yet very serious in a medium weight package that will reward 5 to 8 years
of cellar time. (87-90)/2006-11

1998 Gevrey-Chambertin “Clos St.-Jacques”: Earthy fruit with intense flavors of truffle, stones and earth with
a good deal more structure than the 99 if not quite the same elegance. This is quite good but I prefer the
elegance and finesse of the 99. 88 points.

1993 Vosne Romanee Les Petits Monts: Still almost completely primary spicy black fruit nose merges with rich, detailed, slightly angular flavors of solid intensity and fine length. This is really quite pretty and still on the way up. It will probably never soften completely but it is very stylish and while approachable now, it should be better in 3 to 5 years. 89 points. Dated Oct 28 2003 - sourced from Snooth.com.
