Description

Chateau Larrivet Haut Brion, Pessac-Leognan 2000. 2 bottles
Drink to 2020. (market price £39)

From the sensational 2000 vintage, given 18/20 by Decanter this wine is a classic claret with black fruit, cedar, a bit of smoke and pencil lead, elegant, balanced and mature absolutely delicious drinking.

‘Open and sniff and 2000 wafts from the bottle. Here, I experienced a rich, complex, full of fruit, wine of age. This petite Chateau is the deal of the decade. Where can you pay $27 for $100+ 2015 experience? From top to bottom, the 2000 vintage is the vintage of the century, and each year confirms the royal in the purple, the black in the berry, the chic in the cherry, the cigar in the cedar, and the love in the licorice. ‘ 93 points Recent cellar tracker note.

Faugeres, St Emillion. 1998. 2 bottles
Drink to 2015. (market price £39)

1998 was a superb vintage on the right bank. This is a lovely mature Saint Emillion with good fruit core wrapped in delicious secondary flavours, forest floor, leather, touch of smoke. Excellent. Drink in the next year or so.

‘A wine of beautiful purity, symmetry, and grace, this complex, dark purple-colored 1998 reveals abundant quantities of black fruits infused with notions of new oak and graphite, medium to full body, sweet tannin, admirable elegance, and beautiful richness. Anticipated maturity: now-2015’. Wine Advocate. 90 points.

Batailley, Paulliac 2001 Decanter 18 points. 1 bottle.
Drink to 2018 (market price £43)

‘This has a rich plum colour and a smoky new-oak nose with intense blackcurrants (pointing to its high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon). On the palate soft, ripe tannins envelop this attractive benchmark Pauillac. Even for Batailley this is particularly impressive, offering excellent value and long-term drinking until 2018’. BBR 18/20

‘Typically stern, masculine, firm, and almost completely closed, this dark plum-colored, medium-bodied Pauillac offers hints of earth as well as black currant fruit in a virile, monolithic format. It possesses good weight and depth, and aging may bring forth more character and charm.’
Robert Parker – Wine Advocate 87

Lacoste Borie (second wine of Grand-Puy- Lacoste) Paulliac 1995. 1 bottle.
Av cellar tracker score 90.4 (market price £41)

Bricky rim, nice cedar, smoke & pencil led nose, still with a core of fruit under bark chips and forest floor. Quite long and very satisfying. Improved with decanting.

‘Leather, cedar, wild cherry on the nose and palate, fully developed, perfectly integrated, and quietly opulent. Textbook Pauillac’. Cellar tracker Wine & Roses.
