Description

Chateau Duhart Milon, Paulliac Rothschild 2001
Drink to 2017 (market price £65)

‘The Rothschilds are making enormous investments in this estate, so I âm expecting a breakthrough effort to emerge. The deep ruby-colored 2001 exhibits a moderately intense, noble bouquet of graphite, plums, and currants. Elegant (much in the style of Lafite) with medium body, sweet tannin, and a lively finish, it will be at its finest between 2007-2017’. Robert Parker Wine Advocate. 89.

‘Dark red. Wild, diffuse aromas. Thick and chewy and sweet. Satisfying, lively mouthful but pretty evolved. Quite racy but long. Well done!’ Score: 17 Jancis Robinson

‘Dense and complex Bordeaux. Big wine with savoury forest floor and cedarwood flavours. Strong tannins demand food or cellaring. Nice supple texture. Classic left bank Bord. Cigar box, gamy, savoury meaty.’ Bob Campbell

Chateau Duhart Milon, Paulliac Rothschild 2002
Drink to 2018 (market price £83)

‘This is an excellent effort boasting notes of cedar, spice box, earth, and red and black currants in a medium-bodied, elegant style that exhibits the hand prints of Lafite Rothschild. A pure wine, it should age nicely for 10-15 years. Duhart is a chateau to watch as the Rothschilds (of Lafite) are making serious investments and pushing full-throttle to upgrade the quality and image of this estate.’ Wine Advocate Robert Parker Wine Advocate. 89.

‘Drinking very well now - soft tannins , proper pencil shavings nose long on the finish’. 91 recent cellar tracker post.

‘In the 2002 vintage, the successes are undoubtedly in the Médoc, where the late harvest (as a result of the relatively cool and damp summer which delayed fruit development) very much suited the late-developing Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc. Both these varieties benefited from a glorious Indian summer which lasted for three weeks from mid September up to the 10th October. The best wines are in the north, with an extraordinary level of consistency in Pauillac and St-Estèphe, producing wines of strong tannic structure with excellent alcohol levels supported by the classic freshness which is imperative for the making of fine bordeaux.’ Vintage review.
