Rated 96/100 by Robert Parker, 92 by Wine Spectator and 5* by Michael Broadbent the general consensus is that this wine has now reached maturity.

Robert Parker:

Wine Advocate # 95 Oct 1994
Score 96
Drink: 1994 - 2008

Tasted 11 Times with Consistent Notes

The 1966 Latour is the wine of the vintage! Very dark ruby coloured with an amber edge, the wine boasts a top-notch bouquet of leather, spices, tobacco, and ripe fruit. Quite concentrated, rich and powerful, it has shed much of its ferocious tannin and is easily the best wine produced by Latour in the sixties, omitting of course, the monumental 1961. Anticipated maturity: now-2008.

Wine Advocate # 129 Jun 2000
Score 96
Drink: 2000 - 2020

The wine of the vintage, the 1966 Latour is a classic, old style Bordeaux that has required decades to become drinkable. A dark, opaque garnet colour is followed by a fabulous nose of cedar, sweet leather, black fruits, prunes, and roasted walnuts, refreshing underlying acidity, sweet but noticeable tannin, and a spicy finish. This powerful, vigorous, immensely impressive, concentrated Latour has reached its plateau of maturity, where it will remain for another 10-20 years.

Michael Broadbent

About the least ready of all the 66's. 18 notes since 1980: consistent, unyielding. Original opacity toned down a little, plummy, starting to show some maturity; nose hard at first but opens up richly, fine, firm fruit, spicy, cedary; touch of ripe sweetness soon overtaken by dry leathery tannins. Huge; beefy; sinewy; full of fruit. Great length; unready. Last tasted Dec 1990 (needs at least 10 years and will surely last another 50).

And more recently:

Still fairly deep, good colour, cedar, 'oaky' bouquet, excellent flavour, balance and length - July 2005 (Lovely now. Time in hand)
