Description

One bottle of this well regarded vintage port.

A splendid 1985 vintage resulted in one of the best Warre's ports in recent years. This is a classic - full bodied and beautifully focused with heaps of floral and berry aromas. It is now beginning to open out.

Some tasting notes:

“This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop, and while they never quite have the voluptuous richness of a Dow, Graham, or Fonseca, they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1985 is the sweetest and richest of the recent Warre vintages. Extremely concentrated, rich, even luscious, this full-bodied, intense, opulent wine has layers of fruit, a full-blown bouquet, and impeccable balance.”
Score: 90. Robert Parker, RobertParker.com, January 1989.

“Very very dark. Sweet, spicy, liquorice nose. Very broad start to the palate and then dried fruits on the finish. Lots of firm tannins still. Still relatively embryonic. Heat on the finish. Lovely spice on the finish. Not the most stereotypically feminine Warre style of wine. Powerful finish. Almost brawny with some wild fruit and flower flavours on the nose. Still chewy.”
Jancis Robinson. Tasted: 18-Sep-2006 . When to drink: 2002 to 2020

Concentrated. Dark ruby to brown. Fragrant with candied plums and violets. Stewed plums and exotic spices lead way into rum raisins, cinnamon, and vanilla. High alcohol. Still has some acidity. Should be excellent for decades more!”

The wine has been stored since release in a proper dark underground cellar.
