Top quality Sauternes for the Christmas and New Year festivities?
Chateau Rieussec was ranked in the original 1855 classification as a Premier Grand Cru Classe Sauternes and it continues to produce magnificent sweet white wine.
2004 and 2007 were both excellent vintages and they have received high points ratings from the professional tasters.Rieussec has been owned by the Rothschild family since 1985 and it is one of the richest and most exotic of all Sauternes.

Two tasting notes on the 2004 Rieussec:-

"The 2004 Rieussec has a very composed and generous bouquet with intense dried honey, quince and smoky notes that unfold nicely in the glass. The palate is ripe and sensual on the entry, the oak present but very well-integrated. There is good depth here, with touches of white pepper sprinkled over the harmonious finish. This is a very competent Rieussec that feels long and satisfying, although it does not possess the personality of say, de Fargues of Raymond-Lafon. This is a decent, workmanlike Rieussec. Drink now-2025".
(91 Points).

Neal Martin. (The Wine Advocate. May 2014).

"Fruity, with lemon, apricot and lilac on the nose. Full-bodied, with a lovely intensity and bright acidity. Long and elegant. The palate builds on the finish. Not the 2001 (Wine of the Year),but very good indeed".
(92-94 Points).

The Wine Spectator. (Tasting note on the 2004 Rieussec. June 2005).

And a Robert Parker tasting note on the 2007 Rieussec:-

"Tasted single blind against its peers. The Rieussec 2007 has a subtle nose of dried honey, pear,a touch of quince and crushed stone on the nose, the oak better integrated than last year. The palate is well-balanced with stem ginger and honeycombe on the entry. It is linear compared to its peers, there is no flourish on the finish as yet,but it has fine definition and hints of tangy marmalade and lemongrass that should become more accentuated with time.Tasted,January 2011".
(93 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. February 2012).
