For those, who love big, beefy, rich, high alcohol Shiraz, this wine from the exceptional 2005 vintage in the Barossa Valley really fits the bill!

"The profound 2005 Shiraz John Zilm was aged in new French and used American oak for 16 months. With an inky/blue/purple color, plenty of purity, richness, and depth as well as notes of incense, blackberries, licorice, pepper, and espresso roast, it offers great presence on the palate, lofty amounts of glycerin, and high alcohol (16%). Drink it over the next decade or more".
(94 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. October 2006).

The most recent tasting note on Cellartracker on the 2005 John Zilm Shiraz:-

"Hard to find such an excellent value in a Barossa Shiraz. Would compare well against others of the 2005 vintage. Should offer peak drinking through 2020".
(93 Points)

Craneford's own comments on this wine:

"The 2005 Shiraz has been heralded as one of the greatest growing vintages in the Barossa Valley vying with the 2002 and the famous 1998 vintages.A long, cool ripening period ensured a wine that is proudly confident, stylish, concentrated and deep in colour.Matured in French oak for a period of 16 months, the wine exhibits hints of spice and dark chocolate with an alluring middle palate of rich, fruit cake characters. The fruit opulence is supported by the fine grained tannins and highlighted by the integrated oak usage. The 2005 Shiraz is a beautifully balanced wine, which can be cellared with confidence for 10 or more years".
