1976 was a very hot,dry vintage in Bordeaux, stressing the vines and had all the ingredients present for an excellent vintage and Robert Parker rates it very highly in his Bordeaux book “The top 1976s appear to have stayed at their peak of maturity without fading or losing their fruit.I wish I had bought more of this vintage, given how delicious the best wines have been over an extended period of time. The 1976 vintage was at its strongest in the northern Medoc appellations of St.Julien,Pauillac and St.Estephe”.

"Tasted blind in Bordeaux,I noticed that Robert Parker described the 1976 Leoville Las-Cases as "one of the more successful wines of the vintage," and I concur. Certainly here it had the edge over the 1976 Ducru Beaucaillou. The bouquet is fragrant with cedar and black truffle-like scents, quite Pauillac in style and high-toned. There is a sweet core of fruit that betrays the vintage here, quite youthful and saline, a pleasant prickle of spice on the tongue that renders this an atypically "playful" Léoville Las-Cases. I noticed a little dryness towards the finish, but otherwise this is a perfectly respectable Saint Julien for the vintage. Tasted April 2016".
(88 Points).

Neal Martin. (The Wine Advocate. July 2016).

"Still tannic, but there's plenty of fruit and spice to enjoy,if less clearly articulated than in other vintages".

James Suckling. (The Wine Spectator. February 1992).

The last tasting note on the 1976 Leoville Las Cases on Cellartracker:-

"Very evolved and tertiary nose of leather, mushrooms, sous-bois... taste is very tertiary and evolved with silky tannins and good length... was probably at peak 10 years ago!".
(92 Points).
