Lot size: 1 bottle of 750 ml each Wine type: Red, 1986 vintage
Tax status: Duty PaidQuestion Mark Origin: St-Julien, Bordeaux, France
Fill level: Base of Neck (BN)Question Mark Grape variety: Bordeaux Blend

An excellent bottle from the great '86 vintage.
Label complete and unsullied. Ditto the embossed capsule covering a firm cork. Level: Base of Neck, normal for age.

Still powerful, backward, muscular, and concentrated, with high tannin and some earthy, leathery, cherry and black currant fruit notes, this brawny, relatively muscular, corpulent wine is a bit rustic but still impressive. Anticipated maturity: Now-2015. Last tasted, 3/02.

Some rather more recent Cellartracker comments (avge 90.1)

Faded blueberry, mild sous bois, cigar box, graphite, gravel; pure, refined, though somewhat one dimensional, slightly hollowed, good gradual lasting finish

Gunakadeit has it exactly! 91/92

Pipe tobacco and cedar with red fruit. Mellow and smooth with nice aromatics (better after a 3 hour decant). Really classic old school Bordeaux.

5/31/2016 - EJMWINE LIKES THIS WINE:89 Points
Definitely ready to drink. Tannins are mellow, fruit level is subtle.

6/9/2015 - ALPSJOURNEY LIKES THIS WINE:94 Points
I was very worried as the bottle showed signs of seepage - stained label, and the cork broke in half on removal, but I was able to get it out without wine contact. Small crystals on the bottom of the cork - a good sign.
And this wine was a treat, very mellow and fascinating. Beautiful nose, lovely taste with all the tannins integrated, amplifying the really robust fruit. Almost a nutty finish.
