"The fabulous 1999 vintage in the northern Rhone has surpassed even 1947 in producer's minds.Hermitage,Crozes,St.Joseph,Cornas were all marvellous wines, with the crown going to Cote Rotie. In 1999 they could feast on their harvests. This is a reference vintage for Syrah.Taken off the granite, the schist,or the clay,it produced memorable wines, that will age well and display great style and elegance as they evolve".

John Livingstone-Learmonth. (Decanter. December 2001).

"In nearly a quarter of a century of professional tasting experience,1999 is the finest Cote Rotie vintage I have seen. For pure opulence, concentration, and extraordinary high levels of glycerine and extract, the 1999 Cote Roties are exceptional. They are easily the finest vintage for this region since 1978.Oddly,1999 offered abundant yields and spectacular quality".

Robert Parker. (Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide. Sixth Edition).

Other details

The Duclaux 1999 was bought from David Duclaux on release direct at the vineyard in France. The Burgaud and the Rostaing were both bought on release from a UK wine merchant. They have since been stored undisturbed in a purpose-built,temperature-controlled cellar.Apart from a couple of small scrapes on the top of the Burgaud label, they are in immaculate condition, with wine fills into neck and labels and capsules in a pristine state.
