1967 Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste (Pauillac) 5eme Cru Classe No Reserve
Arrow

Description

The wines of Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste have consistently had terrific keeping qualities and combine marvellous cigar box perfume with rich blackcurrant and cassis fruit and velvety power which is the epitome of top class Pauillac at its very best.
Their 90 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot) are located a couple of kilometres west of the town of Pauillac and lie on deep gravel beds over limestone.
Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of the oldest properties in the Medoc, dating back to the 16th Century.Robert Parker now compares the wine to a Bordeaux Second Growth in quality and even First Growth in some vintages!

The age of this wine will almost certainly mean that it will require decanting. However,I can find few tasting notes on the 1967 Grand-Puy-Lacoste,but the most recent Cellartracker note, rating this wine on the same level as the 1998 Montrose (90+ Points RP...ST) was as follows:-

"BBQ early Sep 2017: cork crumbled upon opening; wine was filtered through a metal sieve into a decanter; 15-30 minutes decanted; purple red color with brown reflexes; coffee, chocolate and plenty of raspberry and strawberry aromas/flavors; light/medium body; round and slightly sweet on the palate.
All eight BBQ participants agreed that this GPL 1967 bottle contained an excellent wine. While older and different in taste, the Grand-Puy-Lacoste 1967 performed on the same level like a Montrose 1998 opened just before.
Great bottle of a 50 years old great wine!".
(92 Points).

FATTY CAT. (Cellartracker. 2/9/2017).

"This vintage has turned out better than initially expected. The 1967 Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste has a deep garnet/ruby colour with a cedary bouquet intermixed with currants, earth, and compost. This medium-bodied wine has noticeable richness and depth, as well as some firm tannins".

Tasting note from "Vintage Wine & Port".
