Some professional comments:

I drank a lot of this in Paris when I lived there in the mid-1980s. And I had a bottle this summer as well. Always outstanding. Shows intense aromas of prune and licorice. Full, velvety and long. This is a beautiful Bordeaux. (JS, Web Only-2007)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 1970 is an old style Lynch Bages with plenty of dry tannin in the finish. Compellingly aromatic, it offers aromas of cedar wood, spice box, tobacco, earth, black currants, and new saddle leather. Spicy, concentrated, and burly, with mouth-searing tannin, this big, thick wine is a terrific example of Lynch Bages made in an older style. (RP) (6/2000)

91 points, Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "Ex-cellar bottle tasted blind at the Lynch Bages vertical. This is lacking a little fruit intensity on the nose. Rather surly, leather, smoke. Moderate definition. The palate is well balanced with firm tannins, a nice citrus edge, good balance and harmony although showing a little decay towards the finish, but still lively, though not quite as structured as I was expecting." (03/2010)

This is why Bordeaux is so special. Nearly 50 years old and drinking so well. Is slightly hazy, but a deep purple with some garnet rims, never making you think from 1970! The nose is clearly developed, and some nice graphite and floral notes, but this was just classic Bordeaux. Incredibly, still alive, and still some tannins! A lovely wine
5/10/2019 - CLARET & CDP GANG LIKES THIS WINE:
Tasted blind, fairly dark, dirty soil smell but blows away, very mature and old smell Bordeaux, grand dame! Lovely

2/18/2019 - NICOLASESTRADA WROTE:91 Points
Medium bodied. Decanted for an hour before the first sip and the longer it went the better it got. About hour number 2 this baby started to hum unleashing your typical Bordeaux flavours leather cigar box. Balance and extremely well integrated. The wine seemed shockingly young when we first opened it. Will have another bottle later this year. I would say it’s time to drink it this is not past its prime.

Decanted 30 minutes before service; ruby core with bricking at the rim. Notes of cigar box, dried plums, leather and hints of campfire and spice box. Medium bodied, very classic structure, with good balance and depth; good focus, finishes a bit short and drying, but excelled with the beef. Showed better 10 years ago, but this 49 year-old classic Bordeaux is still delivering pleasure today!

12/1/2018 - JEFF LEVE WROTE:92 Points
It's been years since I last tasted this wine. In fact, I had forgotten it, as it lay hidden, behind other bottles in the cellar, waiting for the chance to show what its made of. That turned out to be a good thing because this showed great! The strong cedar component rode out in front, followed by herbs, green forest leaf, smoke, tobacco and cassis. Full bodied, a little bit reserved and strict in character, all was forgiven once the blast of old-school red fruits and cigar wrapper hit your palate. Long, full, juicy and still fresh, this is a beauty in your glass.
