What sumptuous pleasures await those who purchase the 1995 Pichon-Lalande.The wine is smooth,immediately sexy and accessible.It is an exquisite example of Pichon-Lalande,with the Merlot component giving a coffee/chocolate/cherry component to go along with the Cabernet Sauvignon's,Cabernet Franc's complex blackberry/cassis fruit.The wine possesses an opaque black/ruby/purple-color and sexy flamboyant aromatics of "pain grille",black fruits,and cedar.Exquisite on the palate,this full-bodied,layered,multidimensional wine should prove to be one of the vintage's most extraordinary success stories.

In a tasting of the five First Growths and several Superseconds from the 1995 and 1996 Bordeaux vintages (sixteen wines tasted in all),Pichon Lalande 1995 came third,ahead of both the Lafites,both the Margauxs,both the Latours and all the Superseconds (ahead of Pichon-Lalande 1996).There were 99 people attending and voting at this meeting,including Robert Parker:-

"The 1995 has similar traits to the 1996 Pichon-Lalande,with more wood influence and smokiness.Superb on entry,with sweet,ripe,Pauillac character;we got notes of chocolate,blackberries and currants.In terms of concentration,intensity,and sheer power,this is a Bordeaux medicine ball.This was the biggest,baddest,"on steroids" wine (can we say that?) of the night.Very long consistent finish.There was a lively post-tasting debate as to which of the Pichon-Lalandes was preferred.Both were awesome".
