Description

It has now become apparent that 2010 was one of the greatest vintages ever in Brunello di Montalcino:-

"Wine lovers are rejoicing at the incredibly high quality of the vintage, and rightly so.The 2010 is a new benchmark for Tuscany's icon wine, producing reds with incredible intensity, structure, and energy.I find the depth of fruit, flavor and savory, almost mineral undertone of these wines spellbinding".

James Suckling. (2010 Brunello di Montalcino report).

Tasting Notes on the 2010 San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino:-

"Extremely complex aromas of mushroom, stone, chalk, dark fruit and lightly dried bark or tea. Full-bodied, with powerful, layered tannins. Muscular and intense. It needs loads of time to soften: better in 2017".

James Suckling (JamesSuckling.com January 2015).

"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a dense and voluptuous expression with opulent fruit tones and equally intense oak nuances. The wine ages in botte grande for 26 months and the slow oxidation has done much to increase the aromatic intensity of the wine. Bold and chewy with thick lines, this wine also shows tight wood astringency that should soften, to a good extent, with time. There are sweet tones of baking spice and sweet cherry syrup on the close. The style is appropriate for lovers of big Brunello. San Filippo makes an impressive statement in 2010".
(93 Points).

Monica Larner. (The Wine Advocate. February 2015).

The two most descriptive recent Tasting Notes on this wine on Cellartracker:-

"Black fruit and earth aromas dominate. Bigger than traditional Brunello. Not typical sour cherry or leather markers at all. First 2010 I’ve had, so may be indicative of vintage. Acid, alcohol, and tannins well integrated. Long finish and can only get better with some age. Try again in ‘19".
(97 Points).

PRG435. (Cellartracker. 5/5/2018).

This is evolving nicely! PnP, and it gained momentum over the hour we drank it. Nose gives off mushroom that fades into red berries. Body is rich and smooth with more red berries and black cherry with good acidity. Integrated tannins. Nice long finish. This was such a pleasure to drink now but seems like it’s got the stuff to keep going another 10 years".
(93+ Points).
