Description

Château Fargueirol is one of Châteauneuf du Pape's oldest estates. It was mentioned as early as the 17th Century in the archives of the village. It then belonged to the Revoltier family, who owned under the direct jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Avignon,a farm surrounded by vineyards, the birthplace of the present domain. The Revoltier family left Fargueirol during the French revolution and settled in Courthezon,a nearby village, and nearly 200 years passed before the family was back.
The wine is typical Chateauneuf du Pape in style, with notes of sweet spice and black cherry, strawberry, violets and hedgerow aromas, plum and thyme, together with a touch of cocoa and licorice. Full-bodied with a good tannic structure and a medium to long finish.

"The best 2012 Chateauneuf du Papes approach the quality level of many of the top wines of 2010,in my opinion, but in comparison to the earlier vintage tannin levels are lower and the quality of those tannins is more delicate. In many ways, to make a very broad generalization, the typical 2012 Châteauneuf offers all things to all people: it has sufficient structure for at least mid-term aging as well as the forward fruit and harmonious tannins to drink on the young side".

Josh Raynolds. (Antonio Galloni's Vinous).

"Chateau Fargueirol owns 30 hectares of vines in the far north of the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation. 29 hectares are used for red wine grapes, while 1 hectare is reserved for white wine grapes. On average, the vines are 50 years of age. Depending on the vintage and specific wine, the grapes are only partially destemmed. Vinification takes place in concrete vats and cement tanks.
Chateau Fargueirol Chateauneuf du Pape is produced from a blend of 70% Grenache,20% Syrah,5% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault. The terroir is all rocks and stone soils. The wine is aged in mostly foudres, with 25% of the wine being aged in tank for 9 months before bottling.
Chateau Fargueirol is usually better with 2-4 years of bottle age. Of course that can vary slightly, depending on the vintage. In the best vintages the wine should be consumed within 4-15 years after the vintage".

Jeff Leve. (The Wine Cellar Insider).
