FOR SALE: ONE BOTTLE OF 1947 CHATEAU MONTROSE 2eme GRAND CRU CLASSE ST ESTEPHE
This bottle is being sold in astonishingly good condition. The bottle, label and capsule are virtually perfect - and the level is the best I have seen for a bottle of 60+ years of age. Remarkable. Storage has clearly been first class. You will see that the bottle bears a US strip lable. At some point in its life it was imported into the US - from a private collection (so the label states).
1947 Montrose has been well critiqued by the wine community and is still being lauded and attracting the following ratings:
Jancis Robinson - 17/20
Wine Spectator - 91/100
Cellar Tracker - 96/100
And although no scores or notes exist from Robert Parker, he mentions the 1947 when comparing and discussing great Montrose vintages.
Value wise, this wine is available from just FRW here in the UK for £356 ex VAT for a HALF sized bottle. Elsewhere it is available for upwards of £1000 ex VAT for a 75cl bottle. A fair and modest reserve has been set that takes into account the condition of this bottle.
