Description

1975 is a vintage for true Bordeaux connoisseurs who have the patience to wait the wines out.The great successes of the vintage are capable of lasting and lasting because they have the richness and concentration of ripe fruit to balance out the tannins. However, many wines are too dry,too astringent or too tannic to develop gracefully.

Robert Parker. (Bordeaux. A Comprehensive Guide. Third Edition).

Two recent tasting notes on the 1975 Chateau Brane-Cantenac:-

"This bottle was much better than previous bottles I tried.Very good and typical smell of old Margaux. The taste was more complex than previous ones I have tasted, tannins and acid almost gone, but good long taste. The bottle lasted for 5 hours drinking, without any sign of fading out".
(92 Points).

PRINSEN. (CellarTracker. 19/5/2013).

"The bottle was full fill.On pour, noticeable browning, but in the glass the color is garnet.Earthy nose that I love so much about Brane.Followed up by generous fruit on the palate.Tannin and acid mostly gone, smooth as silk, continues to improve in the glass. Some preferred the elegance of this wine to the 1990,which we had alongside. Not tired, and I can probably afford to continue drinking sparingly over the next year, but I can't see it getting much better".
(92 Points).

BACCHUS (CellarTracker. 19/4/2013).

I recently tasted a bottle of the Brane Cantenac 1975 in September '13 and it was delightful. It had that lovely old claret nose and flavour of cigar-box and earthiness and appeared to have acquired a soft, seamless elegance, having shed its original tough tannins. However, after an hour or so out of bottle, although still enjoyable,I thought the freshness faded a little,so would suggest that the buyer drinks these bottles quite soon after opening, with perhaps a very brief decant.
