FOR AUCTION: ONE BOTTLE OF UBER-RARE 1929 DOM PERIGNON
Sold in very good condition for its age, this very very rare bottle of 3rd vintage Dom Perignon has been owned by me for the last two years - and owned prior to this by a French collector for the previous 20 years. Prior to this, the history is not known - although according to the label, it was initially imported and released for sale in the U.S.
I have listed it as a normal 75cl bottle, but its true fill is 1 pint 9 fl oz - which I think is around 70cl; normal for bottles of this era.
As for drinkabibilty, well like anything of this age, nobody can guarantee. But the signs are there that even if some of the effervescence may have been lost, the pleasure of sampling such a wonderful champagne will not all be gone.
The bottle, label and foil are in excellent condition considering the age. The level might admittedly appear low, but the bottle is around 70 years old. The contents are still clear. It is currently being stored in cool and dark conditions and is part of my own personal DP collection. It is being auctioned to make way for further bottles of more recent vintage DP.
Current dealer value of this bottle is obviously difficult to gauge, given the rarity. Recently, a bottle was offered for sale in Italy for around £1,200. I have set a reserve for this bottle that is well below this - but is commensurate (in my opinion) of something of this rarity, prestige and status. If you see my feedback, I have sold many bottles of older vintage DP - and have received excellent feeback for all of them.
